  • Set up of the home for Shiva – Including the covering of mirrors, delivery of Shiva chairs, arrangement for the Suedat Havraah (Meal of consolation) as well as daily Minyanim.

Opportunity for Chessed - be a SHOMER

Our community has the responsibility to fulfill the mitzvah of Kavod HaMayt (respect of the deceased) within the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

From the time of death until the time of burial; it is opportune for individual's to sit with and say Tehillim (Hebrew or English) on behalf of the departed. This act is called Shomer- to guard, the observance is a mitzvah that cannot be reciprocated by the departed and provides elevation in Olam Habbah (the world to come) for both the deceased and the entire community.

Every person has the opportunity to be step up and assist with this mitzvah. This role includes standing guard and reciting Tehillim during this auspicious time; to assist our deceased on their final journey in this world.

To be included in this portion of the communal mitzvah, please contact the rabbi including your name, contact numbers and the best hours day/night that you may be available to participate.
